Greek Orthodox Philoptochos Society of Saint Nicholas

        The Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society is the duly accredited ladies philanthropic organization of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

     The local chapters of the Philoptochos Society shall be an integral part of the parish in which they are situated, and shall render and perform whatever charitable work of the Society, at any level, with discretion, courtesy, and kindness.   

The Mission of the Society
  • to aid the poor, the destitute, the hungry, the aged, the sick, the unemployed, the orphaned, the imprisoned, the widow, the handicapped, the victims of disasters, to undertake the burial of the impoverished persons and to offer assistance to anyone who my need the help of the Church through fund raising efforts; and
  • to promote the charitable, benevolent and philanthropic purposes of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, through instructional programs, presentations, lectures, seminars and other educational resources;
  • to preserve and perpetuate Orthodox Christian concepts and the Orthodox Christian Family, and through them, to promote the Greek Orthodox Faith and traditions, in accordance with its doctrines, canons, discipline, divine worship, usages and customs;
  • to promote the participation in the activities of the Greek Orthodox community, with the cooperation of the Parish Priest and the Parish Council.

      The Ladies Philoptochos Society (sisters of the poor and needy), through our national organization, supports St. Basil's Academy, Holy Cross Seminary, St. Photios Shrine, Campus Ministry, Cyprus Children's Fund, Archdiocese Missions Program, International Orthodox Christian Charities, mission priests, programs and charities of the Patriarchate, UNICEF, National Emergencies Fund, Cancer Fund, Cardiac Fund, Social Services, and the Children's Medical Fund.  We also contribute to the general fund of our church as well as the Benevolent Fund and the Church Beautification Fund.  We further support numerous charitable organizations and community needs in our area. 

 

CARE PACKAGES TO IRAQ - The Philoptochos ladies are going to send care packages to the military men on our prayer list.  If you would like to participate in this worthy project, please select items from the following list.  Please bring your items in by Sunday, March 30th.  Special baskets will be placed in the Narthex, Fellowship Hall, and church office for your convenience.  Please help us support our men in uniform with a little bit of "home".  If you do not have time to shop but would still like to participate with a cash donation, we will be happy to shop for you.  Thank you for your support.

Granola bars/other nutritious bars, peanuts/other nuts, nabs/crackers/cookies, gum, hard candy (no chocolate due to hot weather), miniature canned items with flip-top openers, individual flavored packets for bottled water, jerky, DVD's, CD's, magazines (racing, sports, cars, etc.), chapstick for lips, foot powder, small hand lotion bottles, travel-size dental items, novels, small & individually wrapped food items
